"wirechan.org" is a smaller website and I think it's perfectly fine to have a couple of rules, to behave nicely

You'll want a VPS (most unmanaged linux are barely $10 a month anyways) for stuff like FFmpeg to do webm thumbnailing or use php modules not included in regular shared hosting.
Sure you can use a shared server, but you'll have to make do with some limitations in the software.

Running a small chan with 1 post a week (by me because no one else uses it) that I custom made in nodejs works fine on the cheapest vps I could find which is shared between like 3 other websites as well.

Assuming your chan is gonna be somewhat small you can probably just go with the cheapest $5 a month vps.

It probably won't. Macs already had compatibility issues with things made for PCs (e.g. Linux), so I doubt widening that gap further will change much. Then again, I tend to be continuously surprised at what kind of cues tech companies take from Apple. Like, it didn't surprise me at all when iPhone abandoned headphone jacks, but I was absolutely baffled when other phone companies followed suit.
If anything breaks the x86 monopoly, I really hope it's something open source like RISC-V and not just companies trying to copy Apple's dumb bullshit. Who am I kidding though, that's not gonna be the case.

yeah, a big part of the issue is consumer grade computers and professional computers are kind of blurring together; you have spotty 13 year old boys in their bedrooms using rigs that would be powerful enough to be a professional workstation. if consumer computers get capped at a certain level, then hopefully consumer software stays less resource heavy. plus it'd encourage pro software (daws, 3d modelling software, etc) to optimize better to get to da consoomers

Windows 8. Bought a new laptop with win8, then was made unemployed. Lived in a micro apartment with only cold water and next door to a factory. Depression set in.

Decided F* it, win8 is a horror show. Had played with Linux before (dual booted Fedora at university / well meaning parents bought me the RedHatBible when I was in high school) and just went full Linux this time.

Haven't gone back since. Main issue these days is finding a place selling laptops (often refurbished) without a win license tacked onto the price. Still poor. But at least my pc does my bidding.

I don't remember exactly why I got into linux.
I think I decided to set up a dual boot setup on my old laptop after reading about it on LifeHacker (I think). I didn't like it at first, but I did kind of like it. Now I can't imagine ever using Windows ever agoin.

Well, it worked for a bit on the breadboard, loose connections(?) permitting

Still no luck with the harness / display out, though it's reading the touch input over spi just fine

Started making a second harness using solid-core jumper-wires, display tested okay on usb power prior to wiring in the touch interface, but now again doesn't want to work

Also with both harnesses display and touch works when the micro is powered directly from a couple of AA batteries, as an anon mentioned elsewhere

More tests, 2xAA through a little voltage step-up chip for 5 volts, 32u4 / harness 2
Display is working

Tried to repeat display working without touch connected using jumpers, usb connected / fail?

It really doesn't want to work on the 32u4/pro micro with usb connection for some reason
