I might be going insane, but there's something that speaks to me about our connection with humanity, the internet, and God…I don't know what it is yet, but the idea of using technology to transcend into a higher being appeals to me. And I guess for me that looks like living life the way it is and being calm and reassured that everything will be fine, accepting we're in a very technological and online world, and that we're losing our touch with reality. We also accept the end and the tragedies that happen from technology. (Although i'm aware this is already kind of a concept found in stoicism and asceticism probably trans-humanism).

This all probably sounds generic but I think it speaks for myself when I realize that i'm going to be stuck online for a long time, like many other people in the wired world of the web.

This might appeal to you, but if you are being perfectly honest with yourself, do you even believe that it's possible? And if you believe it's possible, what does that even mean, to be a "higher being"?
What you need is Jesus Christ, brother. There is no higher being than Christ, who is God in the flesh. Through Him, and only through Him you may become a "higher being", someone who is holy, righteous, loving, gentle, humble, merciful etc… This happens only, and ONLY through the grace of God, who is ultimately the source of all goodness.
In Him is also the peace and calmness you are looking for, together with the assurance that everything will be fine.
Read the gospel of John, brother, and really consider:
Is it possible that Jesus Christ of Nazareth truly is who he claimed to be? The living Son of God of the universe?
I testify and assure to you that He truly is.

I'm not really religious. and I don't think there's anything divine or whatever about the internet. I think it's a cool revolutionary thing that lets people connect and learn things together and can empower people to have experiences they may not have otherwise had, tho

>and that we're losing our touch with reality
Care to expand on this? Like, how do you conceptualize reality and being in or out of touch with it?

Personally, I am unsure how I feel about this whole thing.

On one hand, my animistic beliefs harmonize very well with my love for tinkering and understanding, and my experiments re-programming of xenophobia to xenophilia.

On the other, I have a growing sense of dread from the speed at which a lot of technology operates, and the growing rift between reliance on and comprehension of more and more advanced technology.

I'm trying to solve this by ways of technological degrowth without resorting to primitivism, combined with spiritual breadth and ecological grounding. Insha'allah we get planetarily stable ecosystmems for circuit boards and drugs, but my imagination is having trouble visualizing how we'll get there.
