on Freebsd ATM and it fucking blows cock compared to Gentoo, I had an issue the other day where when I went to pick a file to post on a board my entire Firefox froze due to an IO pipeline issue.
I was rsync'ing a fuck ton of data to my server and i had to wait for that transfer to finish for me to get my browser back, I couldn't quit the PID either as the IO was already pipelined so the kernel just held it open and I couldn't open another Firefox because it was holding my profile hostage.

Also Freebsd has the WORST desktop package selection out of any os and everything is a port from linux and packaged like complete and utter shit, you want to install mpv ? on yeah ? well here a year out of date yt-dlp that does not work anymore and you cant remove or it will remove mpv !!! want firefox ? oh here is wayland also. bro like wtf

I am only using freebsd because I wanted ZFS native and felt like netbsd would have to much "legacy cruft" and openbsd (while yes being the best) didnt have ZFS support. (I had an existing raid)

I miss gentoo a lot but the way that os is being ran and the people in control of that project now are spooky.

IMO run crux linux or something with no systemd code ooooor use net/openbsd.

srry for the schizo rant anon. I just fucking HATE Freebsd as a desktop, maybe its ok for servers but you can just use netbsd/proxmox/smartos.
