>>281I definitely enjoy the work of the so-called accelerationists, but more from the perspective of science fiction.
Of course it was a major point of theirs that the line between science fiction and political/critical theory is obliterated, but the accelerationists don't offer much of a politics.
Accelerationism is definitely a cope, and the CCRU knew about the essentially religious character of what they were doing and leaned into it. The old religions (scientism, monotheism, polytheism, zen) are dying as the nature of humanity evolves, accelerationism will likely be a big part of the new "religion" as it has so many elements already in place. Just as science fiction predicted/produced technologies, it will also produce the new culture. One to be distinguished from the "cyber-culture" of the late century, which was steeped in optimism due to the sheer novelty of the thing. Now, the techno-nihilism is REAL and the era of the Cybergoth begins. If you start a blog on Cybergothic Cargo-Culture now, you might end up canonized!
All this to say, it's a fucking MASSIVE COPE but if everyone's coping in the same way we just call it culture.
